Super Simple Strawberry Vodka Cocktail

With 6 simple ingredients, this refreshing Strawberry Vodka Cocktail comes together in minutes. The perfect balance of sweet and tart, this easy cocktail is a sure hit at your next summer event.

An Easy Cocktail for a Crowd

When it comes to (alcoholic) summer drinks, I always prefer those that are light and refreshing versus thick and sweet. Think a wine spritzer vs a creamy pina colada. Though I love the flavors of both, I’ll always reach for the one that doesn’t feel like dessert all afternoon. I want a drink that’s going to leave me feeling fresh and relaxed, not like I need a nap.

This easy Strawberry Vodka Cocktails is high on my list of refreshing summer drinks that don’t feel like dessert. Made with 6 simple ingredients, this is the kind of drink that goes down easy and doesn’t leave that too-sweet after taste. Together, the strawberry and basil are a thirst-quenching combination, one that just begs to be enjoyed by the pool – which is usually where you can find me when I’m drinking these!

Since this comes together so quickly and it can sit in the fridge for a bit, it’s a great cocktail to make for parties and picnics. A few minutes of prep in advance and you won’t need to be hands-on for the serving of these strawberry cocktails at the party. But just be warned, if you’re serving a group you might want to keep extra supplies on hand to make another pitcher!

What You’ll Need

There are just 6 ingredients in this strawberry vodka cocktail! No wonder it’s so easy to make.

  • Strawberries – I love using fresh strawberries in the summer. Be sure to pick the best strawberries for this cocktail.
  • Basil leaves – Look for the freshest leaves you can find. If you have your own basil plant that you can pull from, that’s even better.
  • Lime juice – Use freshly squeezed lime juice, not the pre-bottled kind.
  • Vodka – Your favorite brand of unflavored vodka.
  • Seltzer water – You can also use club soda.
  • Agave – I use agave as a natural sweetener in place of simple syrup.

How to Make a Strawberry Vodka Cocktail

This easy summer cocktail comes together in just three easy steps!

  • Muddle the strawberries. Add the strawberries to the bottom of a large pitcher. Muddle them (with a muddler or back of a spoon) until there are no more whole pieces. In this cash, muddling really just means smashing the fruit.
  • Add the remaining ingredients. Add the lime juice, basil, agave and vodka. Stir. Add the seltzer water and give it a final stir.
  • Garnish and serve. Pour into serving glasses and garnish with more basil or lime slices.

Tips for Success

For a cocktail your friends won’t be able to get enough of, just keep these tips in mind.

  • Cut the strawberries into quarters. To make muddling easier, you can cut the strawberries in half or in quarters before adding them to the pitcher.
  • Adjust the sweetness. Want a cocktail that’s a little more sweet? Or maybe you prefer a little less sweetness to your cocktails? You can easily adjust the sweetness of this cocktail by increasing or decreasing the agave used.
  • Use lemon instead of lime. If you like strawberry lemonade, you can take this a step closer to a strawberry vodka lemonade by using lemon juice instead of lime.
  • Switch up the berries. This cocktail will work with any variety of berries – strawberries just happen to be my favorite. Blueberry, raspberry and blackberry all make other great options. You can even do a mixed berry vodka cocktail!

Serving Suggestions

I serve this strawberry vodka cocktail over ice in tall glasses, then add a garnish of a lime wedge or basil leaf. If I’m feeling fancy, I’ll stick an extra strawberry on the rim of the glass as well.

If I’m serving this for a picnic, I’ll keep the pitcher chilled and allow each person to pour their own.

Can I Make This Strawberry Cocktail in Advance?

Yes, you can make this strawberry vodka cocktail several hours in advance. Just follow the directions as normal and stop before adding the seltzer water. Then add the seltzer water just before serving, as usual.

I do not recommend making this more than a day in advance, as you want the strawberries and basil to still be fresh when you serve it.
