Easy Paleo & Vegan 3 Ingredient Peppermint Chocolate Mousse – creamy, luscious, and decadent. This Chocolate Mousse is absolutely perfect for the holidays!

One of my favorite combos around the holidays is peppermint and chocolate. I’ve loved it since I was a girl.

Every year around the holidays my mom, who was a letter carrier in Wisconsin, would come back with loads of loot. Money, gift cards, chocolates, homemade treats … basically any and everything you could think of. It was peoples way of showing appreciation during the holidays, after all, she would trudge through snow most of the winter delivering mail.

It was my favorite time of year too, because as her children we got to enjoy the loot too. The best part was my mom doesn’t have a sweet tooth. I, unfortunately got my sweet tooth from my dad. Luckily it’s not as bad as my dad though. He seems to have a radar for sweet things in the house. My mom use to have to hide sweets she didn’t want him to eat and cover them with other foods to mask the smell. It’s like his nose has an extra follicle or something that is specifically geared towards all things sweet, especially chocolate. That’s his weakness.

One of the treats my mom use to get all the time were mint meltaways.

Ugh… guys have you had these before? It’s basically a combination of creamy milk chocolate and cool mint but literally they melt in your mouth upon entry! It’s seriously divine.

My dad and I would fight over these every year. My peace offering was always letting him eat the chocolate cherry cordials (cherries cooked in a simple syrup then put in a mold and covered in chocolate) basically chocolate covered cherries. I didn’t like them, he did, but he didn’t know that. haha!

So what’s the point of this story?

I love chocolate. I have a sweet addiction. And my favorite holiday combo since I was little is mint/peppermint and chocolate! Hence today’s recipe!

Vegan 3 Ingredient Peppermint Chocolate Mousse in a mixing bowl

This 3 Ingredient Peppermint Mousse seriously couldn’t be easier. Melt the chocolate in a bowl, add coconut milk, stir together, add peppermint oil, stir again, let sit for a couple hours. Fluff back up with a hand mixer and voila.

You will have creamy, rich luscious chocolate mousse every single time. This recipe is fool proof and guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser.

You can easily change the flavor by adding in different extracts … like caramel, raspberry, orange, etc.  But honestly, why would you want to? Peppermint and Chocolate = major yum factor y’all! Don’t mess up a good thing!

I will warn you. This mousse is definitely rich. I LOVE chocolate but could only handle about 1/4 cup at a time, which is perfect because it’s built in portion control! It gives you that rich chocolate burst with a slight hint of peppermint and you are completely satisfied!

I topped mine with homemade coconut whipped cream to keep the paleo, dairy free thing going as well as chopped dark chocolate for some crunch.

Guys, you’re gonna love it and your guests will to! This Peppermint Chocolate Mousse is a must this holiday season. So put the pumpkin down and whip out those Christmas Treats … it’ll be December in 4 days!

Bon Appetit!

  1. Hi, I’m new and really enjoy what I’ve seen of your recipes and blog thus far. Question, I’m having trouble finding peppermint oil. Is there are reason you suggested this instead of extract? Could peppermint extract be used as a substitute and if so, should I use less than the oil or the same? Of course I can experiment, but thinking of taking this to a friend’s house this weekend. Thanks! Keep it up!

    1. You could use peppermint extract too. I just find the oil is more potent and I’m a big essential oil person 🙂

Do I use just the fat portion off the top of the can of coconut milk? Or the whole can; fat and liquid?

    1. Yes, you would just use the thick coconut cream part on top, not the water part on the bottom of the can.

  4. Is peppermint oil the same thing as peppermint extract or are you referring to peppermint oil like what people use for essential oils?? Thanks!

Chocolate mousse made with coconut milk is AMAZING! This peppermint version sounds perfect for the holidays!

  6. How many GRAMS for the 1½ cups roughly chopped dark chocolate (60% cacoa)?
And for the 1½ cups full fat coconut milk from a can (or you could use coconut cream) – it’s the whole can right – not just the thick part when you refrigerate the can?

    1. Hey Monika, it would be about 80 grams and yes you can definitely use coconut cream. You are looking just to use the cream part not the coconut water part, that will thin out your mousse.

  7. I am a huge fan of all types of mousses, but I have never seen anything like this before, only 3 ingredients! I will be making this within the next couple of days, thank you for the amazing recipe 🙂
