Easy Lemon Water Recipe (4 Ways!)

This refreshing lemon water recipe makes it easy to increase your water intake and give your well-being a boost. I have 4 different flavor combinations and they take only minutes to make!

Our bodies are 60% water—we NEED water to survive. But truth be told, not all of us like the taste of water. If you’re like me you’d rather have coffee than tasteless water. Can I get an amen? One of my tricks to not only drink more water, but to detox at the same time, is adding a few simple targeted ingredients to my water. This lemon water recipe adds flavor to your water, but it’s also got some serious benefits. (For a similar recipe, try my detox lemon cucumber water too.)

Why Lemon Water Is Legit

As someone who’s had extensive nutritional training, I know that a lot of health trends are more hype than substance. But lemon water is the real deal:

  • It helps promote hydration. We should be drinking eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day. Making it taste good helps you drink more! And drinking more water helps your body by flushing out toxins and cleansing your liver.
  • Water and lemon support weight loss. Drinking more water will actually make you feel full. That combined with the health benefits of lemon, specifically the polyphenol antioxidants, reduces weight gain.
  • It’s a good source of vitamin C. Citrus fruits in general are a great source of vitamin C, so adding lemon to your water gives you an extra boost.
  • Helps with digestion. Many people find that drinking warm or hot lemon water first thing in the morning helps get their digestive system moving and prevents constipation.

What You’ll Need

Each variation uses just a few fresh ingredients. Scroll down for exact amounts.

  • Lemon – Since lemon rind can contain pesticides, organic is the best choice if you’re using whole slices.
  • Water – Still or sparkling both work! If you’re using tap water, make sure it is filtered first.

Add-Ins for Extra Flavor:

  • Mint – For cool, refreshing spa water vibes.
  • Blueberries – Adds a subtle sweetness and a pop of color.
  • Cucumber – Another spa favorite! This gives your water a light, crisp flavor.
  • Fresh ginger – Slightly spicy and warming, this is especially good if you’re heating your lemon water.

How to Make Lemon Water

All of these come together the same way, no matter which variation you’re making.

  • Combine. Add the lemon slices and your choice of add-in to a glass of water.
  • Infuse. Let the water sit for a few minutes so the flavors come together. With the mint and blueberries, you can muddle them a bit to release more flavor.
  • Enjoy. That’s it!

Making a Pitcher

Want to prep lemon water for the whole day? It’s easy!

  • Add 1–2 sliced lemons to a large pitcher, along with your choice of add-ins. Just remember to scale up the amount.
  • Fill the pitcher with 6–8 cups of water.
  • Let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, then stir before serving.
  • For the best flavor, remove the fruit after a day to prevent bitterness and keep the water tasting fresh.

Tips for the Best Lemon Water

  • Remove the lemon rind. The peel can make your water taste bitter if it sits too long. Removing it is especially important if you’re making a whole pitcher!
  • Let it infuse. Even just 5–10 minutes helps the flavors develop.
  • Make it your own. Mix-and-match the flavors below (try mint and blueberry or cucumber and mint together!) or come up with your own. Other citrus fruits like grapefruit and orange work well, or try fresh herbs from your garden.
