Hawaiian Pizza on the Grill with Mango BBQ Sauce

One of our favorite things to make is Pizza on the Grill! I never knew about this awesome way of making pizzas until a co-worker of mine told me about it. Since then we make a pizza on the grill at least every 2 weeks, sometimes more than that. Our pizza flavor of choice is a BBQ Chicken or Pesto Chicken. However, after our trip to Hawaii we have a new favorite: Hawaiian Pizza on the Grill with Mango BBQ Sauce.

An Easy Grilled Pizza Recipe

Hawaii has some awesome food, but one of our favorite places to go while we were there is Flatbread & Co. Everything at this restaurant was organic and fresh! They use all local ingredients from the different farms on Maui.  And even had a huge chalk board with all the ingredients on the menu and which farm they get their products from. It was really cool to see how they support the local farms on the island and to know that everything we were eating was FRESH! Our favorite pizza {or flatbread} on the menu was called the Mopsy Kalua Pork Flatbread. It is absolute deliciousness on a plate. I probably could have eaten an entire pizza by myself, no joke! They cook the pizza in a Woodfire Oven and top it with Mango BBQ sauce, fresh Pineapple, Maui Onion, Kalua Pork, and  blend of Hawaiian Goat Cheese. Now, I wish I had my own Woodfire Oven out back, but sadly I do not. But the next best thing is doing this pizza on the grill baby! So, lets get to it and make this delicious Hawaiian Pizza!

How to Make this Grilled Pizza Recipe

To get started we need to make the Mango BBQ Sauce.  Ok, the most important part is done. Heat grill to medium heat. Now, get out your Homemade Whole Wheat Pizza Dough. Flour a clean surface and roll out the dough to desired size.

Place dough on heated grill and grill for about 3-4 minutes. {until dough starts forming bubbles}

Remove dough from grill and flip {so grilled side is facing up} on a large cutting board or plate. Start putting the toppings on. First put on 3/4 cup to 1 cup of the Mango BBQ Sauce, spread evenly.

Next, sprinkle a little shredded mozzarella cheese to hold everything together and 1 1/2 cup of Hawaiian Kalua Pork.

Then add 1/4 cup of diced red onion and 1 cup of cubed fresh pineapple.

Lastly, top it off with 3 oz. of crumbled goat cheese and 1 1/2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese.

Transfer “loaded pizza” back to grill. Cover and grill for 6-7 minutes or until cheese is completely melted.

    You do it the safe way, we put all of the toppings on while the dough is on the grill! Maybe I should try it your way next time šŸ™‚

    1. haha… yeah I found then the bottom gets really burnt when I’m waiting for the cheese to melt. The only hard part about this way is transferring it from the cutting board back to the grill, but that’s the excitement in it! Will it fall or not?! hehe
