Paleo Burgers with Caramelized Balsamic Onions

It’s kinda fun to have recipes that I can now rephotograph, but also kinda weird to think I have an “archive” of recipes! I have been blogging for about 3 years and have some recipes that are popular … or were popular back in the day but got lost in the midst of constant recipe pimping.

These Paleo Burgers is one of those recipes! It has gotten pick up by quick a few other websites and has over 41K repins on it. Plus it’s just plain yummy.

I was craving burgers the other day so I decided to remake this recipe and rephotograph it because it severely needed a facelift!

As we head into the fall and winter months I know some of you .. ahem not me because I get to grill year round here in Texas … will be under 2 ft of snow.

Which is why, me, being the smart kind caring person that I am, 🙂 made these burgers INSIDE on my skillet. So that you can have a taste of summer in the midst of a snow storm! {even though it pained me to not go out to the grill, I did it for you, my loyal readers}

These Paleo {yup, they are Paleo & Gluten-free} Burgers are super easy to make, full of flavor, and can be done and on your table in less than 30 minutes. {ok, kinda left like Rachel Ray there, but hey its true!}

When it comes to burgers my non-negotiable is, it HAS to have grilled or caramelized onions on it. No exceptions! I’m addicted. Caramelized Onions are like candy to me!

Tips for Making these Healthy Burgers

To kick up the flavor to this bread-less burger I added balsamic vinegar to the caramelized onions and OMG!!! I cannot even describe to you how good they were. Screw-the-burger-just-give-me-a-spoon-and-the-caramelized-onions! They’re that GOOD! {I may or may not have hidden them from my husband when we had these for leftovers the next night} Add on the avocado, which of course makes everything better, and you have yourself one awesome HEALTHY Burger!

Burgers and even STEAKS can be just as good and juice when you make them on a skillet. The key is making sure your pan is seared hot so that you can get a nice sear on your meat to lock in the flavors!

I cannot wait for you to try these burgers. I promise you won’t even miss the bun. Bon Appetit sweet friends.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

    I just love the recipe as it includes Avacado and patties. That’s all I can ask for whenever I and my kids are hungry. My kids are a fan too.

    My hubby will have to be hungry on the other portion.

    Share some recipes for my hubby too ( which includes – no bread)

  2. Made this tonight and we LOVED it! Had the lean hamburger, but no avocados (but we used Wholly Guacamole). I had no onion to slice, but some frozen chopped onion. Caramelized that in an iron skillet with the coconut oil and balsamic. The house smelled amazing! Hubby could hardly wait! I put the caramelized chopped onion into the ground beef THEN made the burgers. No tomatoes either. So a side salad and the dollop of guac and we were in hamburger HEAVEN! Definitely went onto my Pinterest board!!!!

    Great new photos! They’re making my mouth water — especially over those gorgeous onions! Love that these are “bun-less!”

  4. This is so my kind of burger! I never eat the buns anyway, so I’m serving burgers like this next time — gorgeous photos, too!

    1. I really don’t either, it just makes me full faster and all I really want is the inside goodies! 🙂 Thank you so much Dee!

  5. Made this for dinner tonight. I grilled the burgers outside and added bacon to them and served them on grilled zucchini rings. The onions were delicious!

  6. I made this today with chicken burgers instead of beef. So yummy! Thanks for the recipe! Loved it.

    Oh my goodness, Krista…I am a hamburger addict and your version looks SO DARN GOOD. I don’t like onions at all, but if anything could convert me, this burger could! And doesn’t avocado make everything better (much like bacon)? 😉 Pinning and I can’t wait to try! Thanks so much for linking up with us at Moonlight & Mason Jars…hope you’re having a great week!

    1. Shut the front door you don’t like onions! Um… you do realize that it is in almost every dish to enhance flavors and is “garlics” right hand mind! Crazy girl!! Actually my sister-in-law and her husband are the same way, so you are not alone. Hope you just try these, because with the balsamic they are ah-mazing! 🙂

      Thanks for the pin sweet friend and for the par-tay. Always have a blast.

    Oh how I can’t wait to get back outside to my grill! Just looking outside and seeing it surrounded by snow makes me so sad. This burger looks so good… it’s totally making me super hungry. And those balsamic caramelized onions sound SO good! YUM!

    1. Yeah, I can totally relate. I lived in Wisconsin and/or Chicago my entire life so I know what its like to have the grill completely covered under 5 ft of snow. NOOOO FUN!

      Thanks on the foodie kudos Chris, always glad to hear I make someone hungry! 🙂

    I love to grill year round and use to when I lived in Texas. Living in CO it isn’t as easy, especially when your grill is covered/buried in snow. lol I may have to get my shovel out and pry that cover off my grill! These look delicious! I love the balsamic onions and avocado slices 😀

    1. Yup, thats the nice thing about Texas weather, usually you don’t have to shovel your grill out of snow. Been there, done that when I lived up north Cindy, moved away. 🙂 But, on the other hand. Texas doees NOT have the beautiful mountains and scenery like Colorado. But in either case you can still make this burger because its made on the stove top. 🙂 Hope you get a chance to try it!

    1. haha.. I know me too. Although I know living in Texas once summer comes I will be begging for it to go away, we get like 100+ most days here. Too hot to even go outside. 🙁

    Virtual high-five Krista for this awesome Paleo burger!
    Last August I’ve made a similar one, using a halved tomato in half in lieu of the bun. A huuuge mess to eat but so good (it’s on TIY, if you’re curious!) 🙂

    1. haha.. Virtual high-five accepted… LOVE IT! 🙂

      Ok, went to check out that recipe and it looks awesome (as always), but love that you toasted the tomatoes, almost like you would a burger bun. It does look like a huge mess but well worth it!

  17. I wouldn’t miss the bun with this burger…it looks so satisfying with those onions, balsamic, and avocado! This looks delicious, Krista!

    1. Oh, believe me you won’t want to use a bun every again after eating this burger! Thanks for stopping by and the sweet comment Marcie. 🙂
