Mango BBQ Sauce

Mango BBQ Sauce

Does anyone else love BBQ Sauce like I do? I think I could slather it on any and everything; Chicken, Pizza, Hamburgers, Ribs, Eggs {ok, maybe not eggs}, but definitely some veggies. This Mango BBQ Sauce is absolutely delicious. I first made it to go with my Hawaiian Pizza on the Grill as a base sauce. We had this awesome Mopsy Pizza while in Maui and as an attempt to replicate the pizza I needed to make this Mango BBQ sauce. In order to double check my flavor I had my Mother in Law stop over and try it to be sure that I was on point with the taste and she loved it! {Just a warning it does have a bit of a punch because of the chili paste, but it’s so good}

After eating the Hawaiian Pizza I realized this BBQ Sauce is so versatile and needed its own post. It can be used as a marinade, a base sauce, a condiment for a hamburger or sandwich, or a dip. {when I say dip I think of pouring it over some cream cheese and scooping it up with crackers… yum!}

To get started, dice {chop into small pieces} 1/2 red onion, 2 garlic cloves, and 2 ripe mangoes.

Hawaiian Pizza on the Grill 1

Put 2 Tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet at medium high heat, toss in the red onion, garlic cloves, and mango into large skillet. Saute until mango is slightly browned and onions are translucent, about 4-5 minutes.

Hawaiian Pizza on the Grill 2

Add one 15oz. can of tomato sauce,

Continue adding 1/2 cup plus 2 Tablespoons of brown sugar, 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar, 1 Tablespoon of chili paste {you can find this in the Asian food aisle in the grocery store}, and salt and pepper.

Hawaiian Pizza on the Grill 5

Bring to a soft boil.

Put all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.

    Oh goodness, I have just made your amazing mango barbecue sauce! It is INCREDIBLE!!! I had been looking for a pineapple mango sauce and was able to use your recipe to make exactly what I had in mind. The balance was perfect and the sweet:heat ratio was just right. Thank you, thank you! (It’s a beautiful color as well!)

    1. Hey Paola,
      I have actually never canned it before so I’m not sure. But i did find a couple of “how to’s” on you tube, just search how to can barbecue sauce and you should be good to go. Hope this helps AND that you like the sauce! šŸ™‚

    On today, Cinco de Mayo, I was looking for something different. I found it when I found this recipe. Whipped up a batch and then added it to a crockpot of Meatballs to simmer and marry for another couple hours. Kind of a twist of the BBQ Meatballs thing that appears from time to time at various share a dish meal.

    Anyway, while this is good with the meatballs, it sort of is too delicate for the flavor, at least the flavor of SAM’s Club Italian Meatballs and while you get the taste of the Mango initially it disappears very quickly behind the beef.

    I’m not throwing this away though. I’m seriously thinking this would be a great condiment on various likewise delicate fish or on a fish taco. Or as a dipping sauce for fried Conch. I’m sure that it would survive equally as well in a shredded chicken sandwich or chicken taco.

    Thank You for sharing this.

    1. Oh hurray! Glad you liked it. Yeah, it might be a little “drowned out” when eating with beef. But with fish, chicken, or conch like you said it will be awesome!

      Thank you so much for your feedback!

    1. haha… I tried it a couple of different ways. I think it comes pretty stinking close. Only difference being the fact its not fresh LOCAL ingredients from Maui. I hope you like it Mike.. from one fellow Mopsy lover to another. šŸ™‚ Mahalo

    1. Hey Daniel, great question! I used it 2 weeks after I made it and it was still great. šŸ™‚ I don’t think it would last much longer after that, unless it was frozen.

  14. I love this because I love BBQ sauce but it always makes me feel lousy after eating it. Thinking it’s the gluten- heard they have a lot in there. So homemade would be the answer. Will certainly have to try this- thank you my friend for yet another great recipe!

    1. Yup, the gluten is out of this one. šŸ™‚ You will love it, its sweet and spicy! Thanks for stopping by sweet friend!

      1. I just made this sauce and it is very good but if you really want to make it absolutely amazing do what I did substitute the olive oil for coconut oil! That is just the touch it needed to throw it over the top!
