Blood Orange Poppy Seed Bread

Easy Moist Blood Orange Poppy Seed Bread, full of bright orange flavor with hints of poppy seed in every bite. Hands down my favorite bread recipe!

If you’ve been following me for any amount of time you know that I’m a sports lover. I grew up watching them, I played them from 5 years old through college, and I married a sports lover. (aka ESPN-aholic)

But there are two… maybe three times a year that I get really pumped for sporting events. One of them is the beginning of football season, another is the Superbowl, and the last one is March Madness. The excitement around these events just brings me back to being on the volleyball court again and ushers out my competitiveness. Which is why I play fantasy football and fill out March Madness Brackets! I LOVE IT!

So of course, since it’s March Madness week I created a “family tournament” bracket challenge. We’ve been doing this with my husbands family for about 5 years now and every year I put it together. It’s soo fun! And I love being able to say … I beat the boys! 🙂 hehe

On Thursday night, opening day of March Madness I will not be eating healthy. I will be picking up Wings, Fries, and Beer and camping out in front of the TV with my husband to watch games all night!

But until then let’s talk healthy yummy delicious breads, shall we?

Blood Oranges? Have you ever tried them?

To be honest, I hadn’t tried them before. I always wanted to, but just never purchased them. Every time I saw a picture I thought … wow they were gorgeous. Well, I finally got my butt in gear and purchased some and wow am I glad I did.

Blood Oranges have a slight orange taste, are not overly acidic and are slightly sweet! They are absolutely delicious and would be perfect on a salad, with fish, or even in dessert.

But today I am zesting those bad boys and using the bright red juice in a Poppy Seed Bread. So instead of the typical Lemon Poppy Seed Bread I’m changing up the citrus juice and using Blood Orange…. ya’ll this bread is absolutely incredible!

It is not overly sweet because instead of refined sugar I used honey, which also makes the bread extremely moist!

Every bite has a bright bite of citrus flavor and poppy seed! I guarantee you will fall in love with it.

I cannot wait for you guys to try this.

If you haven’t tasted Blood Oranges yet, get in the car and head to the grocery store now. You will love them and then juice a couple of them to make this bread!

Of all the breads I’ve made this bread recipe is probably my favorite! I hope you give it a try!

Bon Appetit my friends!

Quick breads are one of my favorite things to have around, especially for breakfast with a cup of coffee- yum! I also make them with sugar alternatives. Beautiful photography 🙂
